What is the EOE stock exchange?

"EOE-Optiebeurs" was the first modern options exchange in Europe, founded on April 4, 1978 under the official name Vereniging European Options Exchange (EOE). In the Netherlands, the stock exchange became mainly known as the EOE or Optiebeurs. In the 1980s, the name EOE-Optiebeurs was introduced as a trade name.

In 1996, the EOE-Options Exchange merged with the Amsterdam Stock Exchange to form Amsterdam Exchanges (AEX) and continued as a division under the name AEX-Options Exchange.

Background: In 1975, a working group was established in the Netherlands to investigate the possibility of tradable options on securities. The goal was to set up an international options exchange that would be supported by all major European stock exchanges. Although other European stock exchanges withdrew due to problems with legislation and regulation, the Vereniging European Options Exchange (EOE) was founded on November 30, 1977. The EOE Options Exchange started trading on April 4, 1978 with 9 option classes (call options only) and 69 option series.

The EOE used the trading system of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and clearing was provided by the European Options Clearing Corporation (EOCC).

The EOE Options Exchange distinguished itself by the high proportion of private investors and became an international trendsetter in the field of cooperation with other exchanges.

The EOE Options Exchange played an important role in the development of the European options market and remains an important chapter in the history of financial trading in the Netherlands and Europe.
