What does activate mean?

Capitalization is an accounting term that refers to recording a purchase as an asset on the balance sheet (on the debit side). This happens when an investment, such as business assets, has substantial economic value and lasts for more than one year. After capitalization, the asset is transferred to the tangible fixed assets, after which depreciation and interest charges are calculated. These are charged to the result annually.
