What is the EOE options exchange?

"EOE Options Exchange" was the first modern options exchange in Europe, founded on April 4, 1978 under the official name Association European Options Exchange (EOE). In the Netherlands, the exchange was mainly known as the EOE or Options Exchange. In the 1980s, the name EOE-Optiebeurs was introduced as a trade name.

In 1996, the EOE Options Exchange merged with the Amsterdam Stock Exchange to form Amsterdam Exchanges (AEX) and continued as a division under the name AEX Options Exchange.

History: In 1975, a working group was established in the Netherlands to explore the possibility of tradable options on securities. The goal was to establish an international options exchange that would be supported by all major European securities centers. Although other European stock exchanges withdrew because of legislative and regulatory problems, the European Options Exchange (EOE) Association was established on Nov. 30, 1977. The EOE Options Exchange began trading 9 option classes (call options only) and 69 option series on April 4, 1978.

The EOE used the trading system of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and clearing was provided by the European Options Clearing Corporation (EOCC).

The EOE Options Exchange was distinguished by the high proportion of retail investors and became an international trendsetter in the field of cooperation with other exchanges.

The EOE Options Exchange played an important role in the development of the European options market and remains an important chapter in the history of financial trading in the Netherlands and Europe.
